Make sure you keep your chinchilla in an environment where they are kept cool, and away from direct sunlight and other heat sources.
Chinchillas lack the ability to sweat, so if the surrounding temperature rises near 80 degrees Fahrenheit, they could get overheated and may suffer from heat stroke. Chinchillas dissipate heat by routing blood to their large ears, so red ears often signal overheating. Other signals include the chinchilla lying down coupled with labored breathing.
